Data recovery

Excel v5.0a running on a Power Mac os 8.5.

A workbook has been saved but presumably did not save correctly.

When I try to open the workbook, the progress bar advances 75% and then
stops. A message displays "Unable to read file"

The workbook contains dialog sheets, module sheets and worksheets.

I am not concerned about the dialog or module sheets. Is there any way that
the data contained in the worksheets can be recovered?

I have tried opening as "read only" but this does not work.

The workbook is 12.7mb.

Hoping someone can assist.

You might try opening a new worksheet and typing this into a cell

='Macintosh HDath:[filename.xls]Sheet'!A1

(substitute the appropriate path, filename and sheet)

and see if individual cells can be read in this way. If it works, copy
the formula to other cells.
