data1.msi

I recently ran the Office Update for Office 2000. It told
me I needed to intall SR-1, SP-3, and a number of other
patches.

The SR-1 installation went fine, but now SP-3 is asking
for the data1.msi file for an SR-1 install. I'm pointing
it to my CD (where I can see the file exists) which is of
course pre-SR-1 and the install doesn't like it. It keeps
asking for an SR-1 version of the data1.msi file.

I can't find the file on my hard drive, so I don't think
the SR-1 install laid it down anywhere.
So, how can I install SP-3?

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary,

When it's asking for the CD look at the name at the
*bottom* of the dialog where it says 'use feature from'.
That's the product CD it's looking for. It has to be
a match for the CD you use and assumes Office was installed
from that same location.

You may also want to check the version of MSIExec.exe
you have (MS Installer).

Hi Bob,

I have the same problem with Office, when I try to start
Word or Excel, it asks me for the CD, but when I insert
the CD, it came up with an error message.

The version for MSIExec.exe is 2.0.2600.0, is it ok for
Office 2000 on a win2000 platform?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Katie,

Sounds like a slightly different issue; could you post back with the error
message you're getting?

Hi Katie,

1) Put your Off2000 CD in the CDROM drive
2) Go to Start/Run and type the following command line:

msiexec /fvm E:\data1.msi (you may have to change "E:\"
in this cmd line to reflect the letter of the CDROM drive
on your machine.

3) Launch Word or Excel. Does the problem still occur?

Thanks!
