Does anyone have experience using Excel as a front-end
viewer to databases such as SQL Server, Oracle and
Essbase?

We also need full security support, such as LDAP, and
audit trails.

I saw a product from Juice.com that seems to provide some
of these functions, does anyone have experience with them?

Thank you.

Don't you just hate it when your message is apparently
ignored? I know I do. I sometimes post things that stump
me and most of the time, apparently, it stumps all out
here that may want to offer a touch of dubious free
advice. I rarely get answers to questions that are
obviously not at a 'newbie' level and are obviously (or at
least apparently) asking for advice that may provide you
with a beneficial (meaning something a consultant may
charge money for) answer.

Quick answer to question 1: yes, I at least am one who has
experience with a number of products that either use Excel
or some other front-end to view SQL-compliant databases. I
do not recommend any of them and would opt for something a
bit more robust - my advice, search for some other front-
end rather than a MS Office plug-in. No use re-inventing
the wheel and why limit yourself by MS Office?

Quick answer to question #2: no experience with anything
from Juice.com - would you really trust something from any
DOT-COM? Search harder...

Hi Carmine,

for this needs, I would not take excel as front-end.

If you had money for a essbase, there must be also enought budget for
a real frontend :)

With a front-end-tool like dynaSight e.g.
you have access to nearly all RDBMS and OLAP-engines.
In addition you are not limited on the table structure of your
database engine,
you'll have also access to "logical" structures of your ERP-System
(SAP, Hyperion e.g.) by certified interfaces.
