Database Daemon Fatal Error

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have reinstalled Office 2008 in hopes of fixing everything but instead the newly reinstalled version will not allow the SP service pak to be installed. It will not select my hard drive with over 96 GB of free space. Word, Excel, and Power Point work but do say that the Database needs rebuilding. Did that but Entourage will not run at all.

Use the uninstaller to uninstall Office. Then use Disk Utility to
repair Permissions and try installing then updating all the way again.
Don't launch Entourage until you're done, and then, launch it pressing
the Option key down to trigger the Database Utility and repair your
identity.

Move the Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop and let Entourage create
a new blank one. Does Entourage work with this new Identity?

If no, then go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts.
Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test
Entourage in the new User with a new blank Identity. Does it work?

* If yes, then move your problems Identity in your regular User that¹s in
the Microsoft User Data folder on the desktop to the Shared folder. Switch
over to the new User and drag from Shared (it copies) your Identity. Launch
Entourage in the new Identity. If it fails, then you know the Identity is
the problem. If it works then the problem is in your User¹s folder.

* If no, in the new User, it¹s either your base OS files or your Office
install.

Let us know the results of the tests.

First, be sure you are trying to install the correct update. Select any
Office application in the Finder and choose File --> Get Info to view
the currently installed version.

If you have version 12.0.0 then you need to next install 12.1.0 (SP1).
Then install 12.2.0 and finally 12.2.3, which is the latest update.

If you have version 12.0.0 and are trying unsuccessfully to install
12.1.0, try installing it using the Terminal application. Do this:

1) Copy the 12.1.0 update file into /Users/Shared.

2) Log in to your computer as an admin.

2) Launch the Terminal.app application found in /Applications/Utilities.

3) Type:

sudo installer -pkg <drag the installer file here> -target /

4) Where you see "<drag the installer file here>" in the line above,
literally drag and drop the 12.1.0 update file from the /Users/Shared
folder into the Terminal window. It will fill in the full path to the
file so that the Terminal can find it.

5) Hit the Return key to start the install. You will need to enter your
admin password.

6) You can verify that the install worked correctly by again selecting
any Office applications in the Finder and choosing File --> Get Info.

Hope this helps!
