database engine error

We receive the following error when attempting to open an
Access database. "The Microsoft Jet database engine
stopped the process because you and another user are
attempting to change the data at the same time."

We get this error even when there are no other users using
the database and/or the network.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

running office and windows XP
