database is slow with security

I'm running access 2000 and my database is about 50
megs. I decided to make a fe and be file and add
security. My main table has about 260,000 records and
about 15 fileds. When opening forms and applying filters
it takes about 30 seconds longer to display the
information. Is this normal with a secured database. I
tried changing the lock times and din't notice any
difference.

Currently the be file is located on a p4 2.8ghz 800mhz
side buse with ht.

Any suggestions as to what I might do to speed the
program up?
