Database opens only in read only mode

I am new to Access 2007 but not to access 2000.

I am trying to modify the field structure for a table in a database
that I just created. However, the database opens only in read-only
mode.

What can I do to open it with modify privileges?

Is it possible that the mdb/accdb file itself is read-only? Check
it's properties.

Earlier versions of Access allowed you to make design changes while
other users were in the database. Recent versions require you to be
the only user.
