Database Rebuild leaves duplicates in cache and slow performance

After a while of looking through the many, many database problem posts on here I am just going to post a new question and I apologize in advance if this has been solved before.

After receiving a corrupted database message, I rebuilt the database and after opening it up the performance has completely took a nose dive. It is taking 5 min to open a single email. Searching will not work and I can't even force quit.

Here is another odd thing that I feel might be related, when I search for an email from Spotlight, it will show me 4 or 5 results of the same email in different cache folders all with unique long alphanumeric names.

I am pretty much at a stand still. Yes, I can create a new identity but that does not solve the problem of the emails I have to get to. My business depends on me fixing this or finding some way of getting these important emails out of the database into a new one so I can work.

Any help is appreciate and again I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else.

This sounds a bit different from most rebuilds, but regardless of what
happened we need to address the duplicates. There are scripts to remove
duplicate message, contacts etc. Download and clean up your messages. After
you do this, I would export and start a new Identity. I wouldn't trust that
your current Identity is going to be stable over time.

To get rid of duplicates use one of the scripts found here.

Some thoughts on what went wrong. After a rebuild, Entourage looses the link
on what's been downloaded and will download again. Are you keeping a lot of
email on the server?

What update of Entourage 2008 are you using? Look under Entourage in the
Menu bar. About Entourage will tell you what version. (this is new to Office
2008 apps). The current version is 12.1.5.

Hi Diane,

You are the best and thanks for the responses.

I have tried the scripts and it met with mixed results.

At this point I am going to call the laptop a loss as it is has a ghost that is causing havoc. That being said I need to know the best way to extract the messages and attachments in the database so I am reimport them into the new install without the same problem rearing its ugly and relationship destroying head.

Thanks much Diane! Have a great day!

The export as .rge is the fastest. However the script to create MBOX files
is automatic and it's a alternate backup. I suggest you read over this
article. If the export as .rge fails, it explains how to use the MBOX
method.

Is corruption hiding in your database?

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

Let me know if you have questions.
