Database review/advice

Jeri

Hello all;
I've designed a fairly complicated database (30 tables, 50 lookup tables).
We use it to collect information about springs ecosystems and condition.
Basically it works well, but there are a few issues it would be good to
resolve. Also the data may be used legally for such things as water rights
claims -- for example, a landowner must be able to document that a spring
used to provide water until excessive groundwater pumping caused it to dry
up. We have provided the database to native Tribes who have depended on
springs for generations.

We are looking for someone to peer review the database, help me fix some
problems, and perhaps help me get it up onto a server so it's accessible. I'm
a student, and although we have some funding it is fairly limited. And when
I've approached people who know Access, they seem a little overwhelmed at the
complexity of the database. Where might I find a consultant who might be
willing to help?

Do you have accompanying documentation explaining the requirements, the
design and the known issues? Do you have some level of training, previous
experience or at least reading in database design? If so, you can contact me
offline by removing the obvious from my email address and I would be willing
to at least give your db an initial review. Sorry, but if this is an ad-hoc
design done without any normalization knowledge, I think even a preliminary
review would take more time than I can offer.

I'd be happy to take a look for you if you can provide an overview of
system purpose and issues you are currently facing.

You will find resumes posted at www.UtterAccess.com look in the forum area
(at the bottom of the list of forums). It is a very reputable web site in my
opinon.

In general one would think that you must be willing/able to zip that db and
email it to whomever would propose to consult with you - - or otherwise be
local to your area. Anything less would not be advised.

The answers Steve provides here, in a few instances when he doesn't just
solicit your business, do not inspire confidence in his ability to provide
solutions of any kind. As a start on determining his ability and judgement,
you could consider that he seems unable to grasp that this newsgroup is for
the purpose of providing free peer-to-peer assistance, not for the purpose
of allowing some users to solicit business for themselves. That means either
he has a limited understanding of plain English or simply is unwilling to
follow the rules. And, if he is not willing to follow the rules of the
newsgroup, what other rules might he not be willing to follow -- business
conduct?

Stevie is our own personal pet troll who is the only one who does not
understand the concept of FREE peer to peer support!
He offers questionable results at unreasonable prices.

These newsgroups are provided by Microsoft for FREE peer to peer support.
There are many highly qualified individuals who gladly help for free. Stevie
is not one of them, but he is the only one who just does not get the idea of
"FREE" support. He offers questionable results at unreasonable prices. If he
was any good, the "thousands" of people he claims to have helped would be
flooding him with work, but there appears to be a continuous drought and he
needs to constantly grovel for work.
