Database Running on 2003

I have created a database that is used across a network. The database is
2002 format. All but two computers are is Access 2002, of those two are
using Access 2003 (11.6566.6568) SP2.

One of the computer using Access 2003 causes a problem to the database which
makes all the computer unable to use it.

The error message I get it is:

Microsoft Office Access has detected corruption in this file. To try to
repair the corruption, first make backup copy of the file. etc....

The file works fine on all system except when that accesses the database.

I have run detect and repair on that system. No Change.

Anyone got any Ideas?

Tony Toews has an excellent web page on database corruption.

Allen Brown also has excellent info on corruption.

I have a white paper in a Word document named Fix Corrupt Access Database
towards the bottom this page:

Are these databases on a network drive? If so I suspect a network problem
like a bad switch, router, or even a network card (NIC) that can be on a
computer not even using the databases! I suggest that your network people run
a sniffer to look for bad packets and other problems. Access would be a good
network stress testing tool as if there is a weakness, Access seems to find
it.

I would suspect that the computer having the problem has a bad network card,
memory, or some other hardware or software problem.

I have the same issue. Database in 2002 file format resides on a shared
server. All users except for one has Access 2002. One user has upgraded to
Access 2003. When the 2003 user opens the database he gets the message

"Microsoft Office Access has detected corruption in this file. To try to
repair the corruption, first make backup copy of the file. etc...."

After the 2003 user gets the error then all the 2002 users get the same
error when then try to open the database. Compact/repair from Access 2002
fails so database had to be restored from a backup. This is repeatable!
Every time the Access 2003 user attemptsto open the file, the same issue
occurs.

The Access 2003 user can use his laptop with Access 2002 from same location
and has no problems, so it is unlikely to be a hardware or network related
issue. If anyone can shed light on this, we'd appreciate it.

All users are running XP Service Pack 2 operating system, and the Access
2003 user has Office/Access SP2.

Thanks!

Linda,

I tried to do testing but really I forgot to test. If it is a network
problem you almost have to move the computer to see if its the hub or replace
the nic card to see if it's that. The problem I'm having with the whole
thing is that. This is the only problem we are having with this computer.
I'm in the proccess of upgrading my laptop so I'm going to try it also.

I'll let you know if I can locate the problem....

Jeff,

I really am thinking it's too much of a coincidence that the issue occurred
only on the computer that had been upgraded to Access 2003. And the fact
that you and I both are having the exact same problem is also too much of a
coincidence for me. I don't think it is a hardware issue. Hopefully some
MVP out there can shed some more light on the problem.
