First off, I'm posting here because NONE of the
information I have concerning online support options for
PS2003 does not seem to be acceptable to start a support
case. Anyway...
I installed and configured IIS and SharePoint Portal
Server 2003 according to Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article 840701 (Installed with DB engine -
No SQL Server). I'm now at
step #5 in the article which is installing Project Server
2003. I'm at the install screen
where it needs database server information.
When I select "Create a new database" I specify my DB
server "DRAGON\SHAREPOINTPORTAL",
use "Windows Authentication", and click next I get:
"Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 requires the
Microsoft SQL Server to be in mixed
authentication mode. Choose a different server."
When I select "Connect to another existing database" I
specify my DB server
"DRAGON\SHAREPOINTPORTAL", database name...I
tried "SPS01_Config_db" and "ProjectS1_SITE".
At the next screen I check "Connect to the main Project
Server 2003 database". At the
next screen I specify the MSProjectServerRole login name
as "MSProjectServerUser" and
the MSProjectRole as "MSProjectUser", ans click next I
get:
"The server you entered is not responding. Check that
the name is valid and try again."
So you can see...I'm at a stopping point during the
install process which leads to a few
questions:
1) I followed the steps in Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article 840701 because each document,
install manuals, read-me's, online help I found regarding
Project Server differed greatly
and didn't follow a clear install path. However even
article 840701 stopped short concerning
the install process for Project Server. Based on article
840701, during the install step
mentioned above, do I "Connect to another existing
database" or "Create a new database"?
2) Depending on the answer for #1, where/how do I find
the information to complete this step?
I have documented the entire process but yet it still
doesn't seem to "fit" the questions
asked.
3) Since I installed with the DB engine (no SQL server)
there's no SQL Server Central Admin.
Is there another tool I use to manage this?
4) If you can recommend any other instructions that
clearly layout the install process,
clearly display the communication between the endless
array of apps (IIS, SQL, Sharepoint,
Project, user accounts/permissions), and offer clear-cut
examples with data that is
CONSISTENT (ie, a start-to-finish install example where
the data used is not changed),
that would really help.
