database setup

i am prepariing to update our iso 9001 database setup. currently we are
using lotus notes and i was told to look into visio as a better alternative.
we are looking for a program that will allow access to multiple users but not
edit ability. anyone recommend visio for this application?

where visio will undoubtedly bring a better graphic solution, the drag along
to make it a network enabled tool like notes is very high. (web hosting,
possible sharepoint, security, etc.)

patience young man, some of don't live on the forum. what I meant was that
to get some of the same functionality that you have already in notes
(networking, user authentication, etc.) to wrap that around visio means that
an environment to support it over the network may have to be created.

the ms alternative to notes usually is based on a web server solution
running sharepoint services and their office suite (sounds remarkably like
lotus notes and their office suite).
