database shortcut not working

We have a shortcut to a database on another computer on the network and it
wont work. If I open the database from Access it opens ok. I have tried
creating mapped links and this won't work either. it seems the only way is
file open in access and navigate to the file. Has anyone got any ideas?

How did you create the shortcut?
Right click on the actual database using the mapped drive and select 'Send
to' 'Desktop Create shortcut', then move the shortcut from the desktop to
wherever it needs to be.
Right click on the shortcut and make sure it points to the right database on
the right drive.
Make sure the desktop has .mdb files opened by Access as the registed file
type.

The shortcut on the desktop points to the right location on the mapped drive
and the file is registered as an access database.
It doesnt matter if I try to open from the shortcut or find the database
file on the mapped drive and try to open from there, it does nothing.

I can only open the file if I choose file open from the application itself.

If you double-click an mdb file, does it always open Microsoft Access? Or
do you have to open Access then use File- Open?

If it doesn't open automatically, right click any mdb Microsoft Access file,
and from the menu choose "Open With", then Select 'Choose Program'.
Highlight Microsoft Access AND check the option 'Always use the selected
prgram to open this kind of file'.

You have now registered the file type, and from then on if you double-click
an mdb file it wall open in Access, and so should any shortcut for an Access
database.
