If I move email messages from my Exchange Account folders to folders in "On My Computer" section, does this effectively move the messages to my local drive?

And does it reduce the size of the Exchange Account database?

No, this copies the messages to the folders "On My Computer". To move
you can hold the Command key as you drag and drop the messages or you
can delete the messages from your Exchange account manually by tapping
the Delete key.
And does it reduce the size of the Exchange Account database?

You probably mean "does it reduce the size of the Exchange account?" and
not the Database. Those are two separate things. Removing messages from
your Exchange account will reduce the usage of your quota on the server.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Bill..this should help.
I am new to the Mac world.

I assume that moving folders to "On My Computer" is an effective way of backing up also?

Yes, but you should also backup your Identity.

It's advised not to let Time Machine backup your Entourage database. If the
database is copied while being used, the backup could be corrupt. You can
set the Time Machine to exclude the Microsoft User Data folder and create an
iCal event to copy it over at night while not in use so you get one backup
daily in Time Machine.

Alternative method to use Entourage and Time Machine (does a once a day or
whatever time period you select)

Entourage and Time Machine (creates chronological backup of Identity can be
used by both Tiger and Leopard)

Hi Mike!

In a sense it can be a backup but for Exchange this method isn't really
needed because you should be able to rely on your server administrators
to maintain backups.

However, if you *move* messages from Exchange to the folders "On My
Computer" then that's not really a backup. You're only moving data and
you still have just one set of data.

A real backup would be available in case you lose your original set of data.
