Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel Everytime I try to open a file in excel I get the same message 'Utility Database.log cannot be accessed. File maybe read-only, or you maybe trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on is not responding.' This message also appears when I try using powerpoint but word is ok.

Hmmm... No idea. Tell us a bit more about your computer...

When did you get it? Where did you get it? Are you the first user? Who
installed the software? Etc...

You are experiencing a series of strange problems that indicate to me that
the system is not well internally. There may be a wider cause.

Is the Microsoft User Data folder present in your Documents folder? Nothing
could have interfered with its contents?

You may be able to fix this one by rebuilding the database:

1) Open the Entourage Help and print the Help Topic "Verify and rebuild the
Entourage database". Particularly, expand and print the part on how to
Rebuild the database.

2) Follow those instructions exactly.

But I am more interested in why you are having so much trouble with that
computer: something is not right...

Hope this helps

I got my macbook in Hong Kong duty free about 3-4 yrs ago, i'm the first user and installed windows myself in 2008. Have had no problems to date until i moved from France to the UK and tried to use excel.

The Microsoft User Data folder is present in my documents folder.

Will try and rebuild my database and see how that works.

Hmmm...

If it's not fixed, it may be a good idea to run a File System Check on that
computer.

Given that this is major surgery, let's wait to see if it is needed.

If it is, see here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417

Cheers
