Database Utility

Entourage 2004 v11.3.2

On 7 October Entourage told me there was problem and automatically rebuilt
the database. Everything seems fine.

In the last few days I have tried several times to Export to archive but
each time I get a message in a window entitled 'Import Incomplete' (Import!
I thought I was exporting)

and a message saying there was problem and I should start the Database
Utility.

Please tell me where to find the Database Utility.

Thank you

Hi Francis!

That's strange. Anyway, to launch Database Utility, hold down the Option
(Alt) key when launching Entourage. You can also find the application
itself inside Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office.

When using Export as Entourage archive (.rge) and you have a corrupt message
or data, the export will fail. You would have to export by category or file
type to identify where the corrupt data is located to delete.

Not sure why you are getting messages about import when you are exporting.

Lastly....

Now that will make for a merry Christmas!

Thanks Michael - I've found and run the Database Utility but I still have
the problem of not being ablke to expoert the database.

Daily, when the schedule gets mail from one of several eaddresses I get the
message copied below. Obviously I must have set up a Mailing Rule for the
Lidl site and have messed it up, probably by cancelling the automatic
sending of their Newsletter - I do not know where is the Mailing Rile or how
to cancel it. Please help since this might be why I cannot export a backup
of my emails.

Thanks

Francis Hookham

Error Description
Error

executed.

Hi Francis,

I strongly doubt that the fact that you cannot export the database is
related to the issue you are describing here. Nevertheless, here's how you
solve the problem:

* click on Tools>Mailing List Manager
* delete any rules that you can see in that window (unless you have created
these rules on purpose)

The constant error messages should now stop.

Many thanks again Michael - I was being my usual silly old wrinkly thing,
not looking far enough for the Mailing Rule. However, having got rid of the
offending one and running through the Database Utility items (Verify,
Compact and Rebuild) the Export worked perfectly and I now have a nice
backup on the desktop.

Great and a Happy New Year to you wherever you are - I am in Cambridge, UK,
on a gorgeous sunny late morning with about 8C outside.

Hi Francis,

thanks for letting me know. It's good to hear that everything is now working
as expected.

A happy new year to you as well I'm having a hard time getting over the
fact that it is considerably warmer in the UK right now than it is on the
continent (Luxembourg, 1°, anything but sunny).

Michel

Apologies for the misspelling - I should have checked more carefully - I had
a pen pal in Paris in the late 40s with that name.
