I have a fully functional version of Office 2004 - with all of the latest updates - with an Entourage database that is about 10.5 gb. I was able to install 2008 and without any problems. When I go to start Entourage 2008 it went through a very long process to upgrade the messages and then at the very end indicates that there is a problem accessing the data and to repair the database. (it does not show up in the 2008 repair utility)

When I go back to 2004 and do a verify there are no problems reported. I can compact the database without any problems. However, if I try to repair the database I get an error message after about 20 minutes that a problem was encountered and it needs to stop. I tried to do a manual export of all items from Entourage 2004 and get an error message that there was a problem with one of the messages and the export was not complete. I have no idea how much was actually exported.

Looking for any suggestions on this.

UPDATE / SOLUTION

The solution was to create a new database in Entourage 2008 and then when you start it for the first time it asks if you want to import. Answer yes, and by pulling everything into a new database it worked - or at least there were no errors and nothing seems to be missing.

I had the same problem and finally had to create a new identity in 2008
and manually bring in my inbox, sent mail etc. It was a pain but now
works perfect and I can rebuild my database.

The question is, how do i convince office 2008 to let me create a new identity? I can't seem to find any way to get to that function. Entourage refuses to run, for lack of a database, and Word doesn't seem to have any functions I can see that address dealing with entities. Another message on this board seemed to indicate I should 'run office', but there is no such program in my apps folder that i can see. Tons of Microsoft apps, but nothing the runs 'office' per se.

I tried to use the data base repair facility as it was presented to me by entourage when it couldn't find a database it liked, but the utility hangs for lack of any identities.

I'm sure it is something stupid and right in front of my nose, but it is eluding me...

:

You have lumped several problems into one message and it's a bit confusing.
Please try to be specific with your concerns. I've answered the best I can
without further clarification.

identity?

In the Microsoft User Data folder located in Documents. Move the Office 2008
Identities folder to the desktop. This will force Entourage to create a new
blank Identity.

Are you perhaps referring to "Remove Office"

If the Entourage 2008 rebuild database cannot see an Entourage 2004 database
to rebuild.

Were you ever able to get a working imported Entourage 2008 Identity? Can
you see it in your Documents folder?

If you still have Office 2004 installed, you can open Entourage 2004 and
extract your data manually and move it into the Entourage 2008 Identity.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version)
