Database

Hello,

I am looking at database integration options for Word X. Filemaker 6
works okay for populating merge fields, but for me Filemaker stumbles
on some other non Word issues. So, these issues have started me
looking for another database so that I only have to use one database
not several. Does anyone out there use another database to pass data
to Word? Or better yet from Word X to database?

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Hi

If you have simple data tables that are not relational then Excel is a good
choice to use as a data source for Word's data manager.

If the tables are small enough even a Word table in a separate document will
do just fine.

For big jobs consider using MS Query with Excel then bringing the result
into Word from Excel.

Jim,

Wow, that sure is a nice simple idea. I have a few projects for which
that solution would work well without the hassle of learning another
program. However, it still begs the question of what end user Mac
database, that is not Filemaker, makes a nice Word data server? Any
other suggestions?

Thanks again,

Michael

I use MySQL to store a complete product catalog. It interfaces with Excel
through the ODBC connector. Wod is able to use the Excel connection to do a
standard mail merge.
