datatype conversion while linking table

Hi,

Can someone point me to an article, which describes when Access97/2000 will
convert a datatype during a link table operation with a foreign data store
through ODBC.

Details:
Linking an Oracle 8.1.7.4 table which has fields of integer and number data
in both fields are pure numeric, but when linked they appear as text.
