Date and time wrong

So I finally got my wife on a Mac. iBook (12 in) is what she wanted.

We've been running Office 2004 on the computer with few problems, but
recently, the date on the documents have been incorrect. It has kind of
filled itself out, like Office does if you have that preference set,
but the date is incorrect. Any ideas on why this may be, and more
importantly, what kind of fix is neccessary?

Thanks!

Have you checked the Date / Time in the Mac OS preferences is correct?

If it isn't and if resetting it to the correct date / time gets lost
when you shutdwon and later restart, then the PRAM / date battery maybe
dead (should only be in a second-hand computer though) and need
replacing.

To avoid "auto date insertion" every time you open a document, go to
INSERT on Worfd's toolbar, then to DATE AND TIME, and click on the
date.

The date is now "permanent" in the document and won't change next time
you open it.

Note: the little 'insert date' icon on the toolbar creates an auto date
that changes each time you open the document.

Thanks for the help with this issue! Restarting Word does the trick.
I hope MS fixes this in an update soon...

It's not really a problem with Word as such (for a change) - MANY
application's work this way. It's more a problem created by people no
longer turning off their computers and using Sleep mode instead, as
well as people not quitting applications when they've finished using
them.

Won't happen - it works as it's designed to. There's nothing to "fix",
per se.

It's possible that a future version might be designed differently, but
Word 2004 will always behave this way.
