Date change pasting from one sheet to another

Dasman

Using Excel 2004 I have 2 spreadsheets. I gather dates in a column in
one of the spreadsheets and every now and then I select the column and
copy those dates and paste them into another spreadsheet. The column
pasted from and the column pasted to are both formatted as general.
Problem arises when pasting, a date shown as 1/2/08 or 2/1/07 becomes
1/2/04 or 2/1/03 when pasted. Why does the year change to 2004 or
2003? The year always sets back 4 years. Happens on 3 different
machines all running the same version of Excel. It even happens if I
copy/paste a date from one cell to another. Changing the format of the
cells to dates does not change the results......Anybody ??

Very simple, One sheet has the 1904 date system set (Excel Preferences -
Calculation) and the other does not. Most likely the one that does not
originated from Windows, and the other on the Mac. You'll have to make the
date setting the same on both sheets.
