Date Format in Merged document

Jon

In my letter I have «Date». I also have that column in my Excel database. In
my database the date is formatted as November, 27, 2007, but when I merge the
documents the date is shown as 11/27/2007. I don't see any way to adjust the
formatting. Thanks for any help.

Hello Jon,

Drag across the date field in your letter and key Shift-F9. The field coding
is revealed: it will include M/d/yyyy. Change that (by keying) to MMMM d,
yyyy -- then key Shift-F9 again. Select and key F9 to update it.

Thanks, but I'm not getting this. I may not understand your instructions. I
am in Word 2003. If I drag across the date field and hold down the shift key
and the F9 key I get {MERGEFIELD"Date"}

I do not see any field coding.

Jon,

You've landed in a discussion group for users of Mac versions of Word (not
your fault: it's a charming foible of Microsoft's web interface, which I
guess you used). Mac versions differ variously from PC versions. Although
several people here use both PCs and Macs and may give you an answer soon,
it's likely that more people in a PC group have experienced your specific
problem. Here's where all the groups are listed:

Look up "Switches" in the Help for the Merge Fields. You can specify a
switch to control the date formatting.
