Date Formats on Inpute screen

I have set up a query and wish to limit the date range. I
have done this with the expression in the criteria line:
Between [Start Date] and [End Date}. It works fine and
does the job however when the date ranges are entered,
they can only be entered as 999999 and I want them to be
entered as 99/99/99. I am also using the [Start Date] and
[End Date] in the title of the report based on the query.
I have set the input screen on the [Start Date] (and [End
Date]) to 99/99/99; but it does not seem to work.

Any help would be appreciated.
