date formt in Excel

I am trying to format dates as dd/mmm/yyyy in Excel and it will not do it for
dates before 1900. I did not have this problem with office 2003 - so much for
upgrades

No version of excel (including xl2003) supported dates before Jan 1, 1900.

You could enter the value as text, but it won't be a date--it'll be text.

If you need to do date arithmetic with these old dates, you may want to look at
John Walkenbach's addin:
