Date Problem

I am importing a table in from another application. The application is
called Go System and is made by the company Creative Solutions. All of the
data comes across fine, except for the transaction date. Rather than
bringing the date over as ?mm/dd/yyyy, or some other date format, Access is
storing the data as a number with a format of long integer. I have tried
several things to convert it back to a date, but can't seem to get anything
to work. Does access store dates as numbers? Any help would be much
appreciated.
