Date problems in Word

I am using Word X on my iBook, with 10.4.7 OS. When I start a letter,
I type the date starting with the month. The suggested date shows a day
behind so I can not auto-complete.

I have checked the date on my iBook, it is correct. I have the little
box in Date & Time preference checked "Set data & time automatically"
and I am using Apple America/U.S. (time.apple.com)

No.. Time zone is set correctly to CDT.

Hi TK -

It could be more involved than this, but one thing you don't refer to is the
additional setting in System Prefs for Time Zone. Make sure that is set to
the correct part of the country for your time & date.

If that isn't the cause let us know.

Make sure that AM/PM is set properly in the system Date & Time Preferences.

Does this always happen? Have you tried quitting & re-launching Word to see
if that makes a difference?

AM/PM is set correctly. Problem has been going on since I upgraded to
10.4.7 (I think). I don't remember this being an issue before. I am
sending out lots of letters for job search so I think I would remember.
Every new letter I have this issue. I have just typed over but I
finally decided to ask.

Is this happening with any other programs: Excel, for example or the Date &
Time display for the OS?

This is a long shot, but take a look at System Prefs>International>Formats
to make sure it's set for Gregorian Calendar.

From what I've seen this can happen if you leave Word open overnight.
Apparently it gets the date for these operations when the program is
started, not when you need it filled in.

Hi DLR -

You may be on to something here due to how the AutoComplete feature works. I
wasn't sure as I *never* leave *anything* running overnight.

To test it, though, I did reset the system date while Word was running, then
came back to Word & it used the newly set date. Likewise, when I went back &
reset the date Word use the correctly reset date without a problem... As
long as I used the Insert>Date command.

However, AutoComplete continued to use the date set at launch regardless of
changes made to the system setting while Word was running.

Sorry for joining in so late, but yes, this is a known problem. Word picks
up the date at launch, and it will use that one until you quit it and
relaunch it (when it will pick up the new date). And that's also the only
solution, so if you want to keep your Mac running overnight, just make sure
to quit Word and relaunch it before you start using it again.

Hi Michel -

Good you hear from you again! Oddly enough I've just been reviewing the
"can't update" posts where you've been appearing with great frequency...
That one is really a stumper! I have some thoughts, but have stayed out of
the thread as I have nothing concrete to offer on the subject.

But back on track - I find it rather weird that AutoComplete 'locks in' on
the date at launch, but the Insert>Date & Time menu command adjusts
automatically whenever accessed. This is quite possibly the case, but I
guess we won't know for sure until we hear back from the OP.
