Date Reversal in merge - SP-2 fix?

During enhancement of part of our UK system we have changed some merge fields (Access -> Word).
Included in these is are Access Date/Time Fields.
You know what I'm going to say, that the dates (being in UK) are appearing in Word as MM/dd/yyyy instead of dd/MM/yyyy. The dates within Access appear as UK format dd/MM/yyyy

I have no problem with the mergefield formatting as even ordinals work fine. However there is further to the problem....

The reversal was noticed on our User Test system running Office XP SP-1, whereas our Development systems are running Office XP SP-2 and the problem does NOT occur - the dates appear correctly!!

What I need to know is..... has there been a fix with Office XP SP-2 for this issue? And if so can someone direct me to a reference? This is because as expected our UT envionment replicates our Production env of 500+ PC clients, which are not due for the roll out of SP-2 for a good while yet. I need a reference if possible to be able to put my case for the roll-out of SP-2 to our Prod PCs ASAP.
