Date stamp tied to field change.

I have a need to track the date in which a certain Rich Text field has
changed. I hoped I could do this by creating a rule, but I noticed that my
rich text field won't give me that option (to create a rule).

Any suggestions on how to do this without coding? Or is that my only choice
