Date/Time Stamping of INK - allow these to have an option of being printed ?

E

EMRhelp.org

My new fav feature of ON 2007 Beta2 is the time/date stamping of my
written (INK) notes.

I'm just learning the nuances here.

There may come a time I will have a legal reason to want to know what
date/time I wrote something, and maybe even when I edited it.

I realize this is a tall order to for OneNote to excel in. (pun
unintended).

I'll have to research more about this.

I would like to have an option of the dates/times being printed when I
print something.

Anyone else the the date/time stamping useful ?

:)

Sounds like something to develop with the new API :)

We use it in our shared notebooks to see who wrote what when. We don't need
it often, but when we do it's certainly handy.

So, how do you use it? How do you view the information. Can it be printed
as EMR suggested? Is the info only available in shared notebooks?

Aloha Grant,

It's available on all notes in all notebooks. Mostly we just use it when
we're looking at a page that has been edited by multiple people and we're
curious to know who wrote a particular note or when they wrote it.

I'm not sure about printing it; we almost never print our OneNote stuff and
I don't think we've ever tried to print the metadata. I'll have to try that.

Right-click on a note container, Properties and there you should see it.

So the time stamp is PER note container? So, if I really wanted to keep
track of when I added notes I would have to make sure I did it in a new
note container every time?

I take it back. It looks like it is per paragraph/word or something like
that. I can't tell what the smallest unit is the timestamp is on, but it
might even be on the individual character level.

Actually it's extremely granular. It's not per word, but certainly "per
paragraph".

That's pretty cool. I don't think I would use it much but I can see where
it would come in very handy for business people taking meeting and phone
call notes.

Is there any way to turn it off for those of us who wouldn't be using it?

I believe ON needs the time stamping for its syncing mechanism. So it's
something critically important for ON to work and as Ben mentioned the
UI for it is barely noticeable.
