You need a CREATEDATE field with an appropriate time and date switch in the
template. The template will always show the date it was created, but new
documents will always show the date they were created. If you check Word
Help for 'general switches' you will get some idea of the range of date/time
switches available.

I would like to generate a Press Release template whereby the date, and time, the press release is to be released (say it was today) is indicated automatically, but, I do not want the date to change (want it to remain reading today's date) each time I enter into that document.
So, I would like the date and time to enter automatically on the day I am creating the Release but be permanent - is that possible?

Use Insert > Field to insert a field with this code:

createdate \@ "d MMMM yyyy hh:mm am/pm"

You can change the format of the date and time. For information about how
the date and time codes work, look in the Help for the topic "General
switches" and click the More Information button under "Date-Time Picture
(\@)".

The CreateDate field always shows the date/time when you used the File > New
command to create that particular document. In fact, you can go back later
and insert the field in a saved document, and it will still show when the
document was first made.
