Dates being Microsoftised

When I enter a date, e.g. 15 June 2005, Word (v 2000) puts -06-2005 after it
if I press Enter immediately afterwards. If I put a space then it doesn't.
This must be an Autotext feature but I can't see how to disable it.

Can anyone enlighten me, please?
