Dates change from Windows to Mac

HELP!!!

I've opened an Excel file created on a windows machine (Excel 2000)
and when I copy the dates to a new Excel (X) spreadsheet, the dates
CHANGE!!!

The numeric value of the date from the Windows sheet is 36015 which
gives 08/08/98.
When I copy this to a Mac spreadsheet, the number value 36015 stays
the same, but it shows 8/9/02.

Anyone know what is going on?
Sounds like a setting somewhere that I need to change, but I don't
know where.

Thanks!

Hi

This article explains what is going on and how to adjust:

XL2001: How to Use Dates and Times in Microsoft Excel
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303216

Although it applies to Excel 2001, the same information is true about XL
version X.
