Dates change when pasted from one Excel to another

I am trying to update a new Excel spreadsheet, and when I copy and paste the
new data into the old spreadsheet, the dates completely change. For example,
the date may have been 4/06/2008, and when copy and pasted into the other
spreadsheet it automatically changes to 4/06/2012! I checked the formatting
of the cells in each column, and it does not reflect this issue. Is there a
default date set for Excel 2008?
