Dates in Word Templates

Using Word 2003. When putting a date field in a template, I would like it to
display today's date when I merge a letter from the template, but show the
create/save date when reviewing the saved letter. Do I use the field for
create date in the template?

Yes, use CreateDate in your template. When you create a new document based
on the template the date will be the date the document was created - it ill
not be inherited from the template.
