Dates w/ appointments not boldfaced

Beginning in August 1995, dates on my calendar with
appointments do not appear in boldface. I have gone to
<current view> <customize> <other settings> and the box
<Bolded dates in Date Navigator represent days containing
items> is checked. Nonetheless, when an appointment is
added to the calendar from August 1995 forward, the date
does not appear in boldface on the calendar. How can I
correct this?
