day of year function

Is there a way to display a date as the (1-365th) day of the year? I'd
like to enter say, 3/27/09 but display 86 in the cell.

Sorry, Harvey, but what you're asking for is a matter of data conversion,
not a matter of formatting. Excel can't convert the data to be anything
other than what is entered.

One thing you can do is store 12/31/2008 somewhere, enter the current date
in another cell, then create a calculation elsewhere that simply subtracts
the one from the other (formatted as a Number).

That's what I did but I thought I'd try anyway.

Thanks
