DB won't open after compaction

Win2K Pro SR-4, Access2K SR-1

I have a fairly complex FE with 20+ tables linked to the
backend (also .mdb), and a fair amount of code. This being
a multi-user application on a company LAN, I would like to
have it compact on close; the problem is, Access hangs
everytime it tries to open the FE right after it's been
compacted (either manually or on close), and I can't
figure out why. I thought it might be something in my
code, but compile didn't raise any flag.

Has anyone had this problem? Any idea what it might be?
