Access 2002

when linking to dbf files - how important is it that you
know (and choose from the drop down) exactly which
version of dBase your files are? (III, IV, 5)

Also, is the purpose of specifying the index files for
these linked tables just for speed..are there other
reasons?

Can anybody point me in the right direction to learn more
about "Tags" (the box that pops up after you select the
index after linking)
