Windows XP SP2 - Office 2000 SP3 This morning I needed to rename normal.dot to force Office to create a new, clean normal.dot, but I couldn't find it. So I went looking around and found this: In the Tools > Folder Options\File Types dialog, it is listed correctly as Microsoft Word Template, to be opened by Microsoft Word. Under the Advance DDE Message: [REM _DDE_Direct][FileNew("%1")] (for example) for 'new' 'open' 'print' etc. (I got the same thing for DOC (Winword the word processor). Late this afternoon I finally found normal.dot, renamed it and restarted machine. This time I got a nice clean style sheet for Word. I went back to Tools > Folder Options\File Types (for both dot and doc) and the DDE stuff is still there. What is the DDE info mean? Do I need to turn something on? or off? Will I be having trouble once I start using the clean template? I'm an old time user and have never seen this before.
