DDE problem ...

Hi all,

I created a letterhead template for my small home business. Somewhere
along the line it seems to have got linked to an excel document and/or
an Access document. I am not aware of having done this but it's
'possible' that I may have reused an earlier created document and not
realised the link.... tho I don't think so.

Anyway... now neither the Excel or the Access will open when I try to
open this template OR any of the letters I saved as a result of using
this template.... and I have to quit and crash Word to get out of it.

My problem is that I need to get access to this template to avoid having
to completely recreate the template from scratch ...

Can I turn off this DDE function somehow ? I just want to open this
document to get a look at it or print it ?

Much obliged.

Sorry guys...

I rebooted twice and it seems part fixed....

Now the document does open...and opens an excel spreadsheet document.

I saw that the word doc is actually a mail merge doc and I went in to
Mailmerge and made it revert to an ordinary document.

However even after saving it.... and opening it again... it still opens
the excel doc !

I have searched through the one page docu and cannot find any other
evidence of a link :-( and the 'links' item is greyed out in the Edit
menu...

Any ideas anyone ?

Is the thing you saved a template or a document?

Is it attached to a template that has a mail merge data source attached? if
it is, you will need to find the template, open it, and remove the data
source from that as well.

OK peter. The attached file never opens.... so I won't be able to do
that. Seems like a right mess in how the files are created.

Tks for your time.

Do you mean that you cannot open the attached template?

If so, perhaps the best approach is to create a new template (I don't know
what you have in this one (and maybe you don't know either :) ) and attach
your document to that instead.
