Deactivate Office XP

I have replaced Office XP on my main computer with Office 2007, and have
installed the XP version on my laptop. Much to my surprise the activation
wizard on this 7 year old program popped up, and when I attempted to do so I
wasn't allowed because it was activated on another computer. Is there a way
to deactivate this program so that I may reactivate it, or am I just out of
luck?

Use the phone activation method and explain to the MS tech. They'll
give you the authorization (assuming that the version of Office XP
that you have is not OEM).

First is it OEM? If so, you are out of luck. If Full Retail Package, you
will need to call the Activation number.

Well, never mind. After I posted this I tried again, and when I was denied
activation I used the telephone option and was allowed to activate it that
way. Peculiar but quite Microsofty.

Thanks to you both for your replies, which came in as I was sending my last
message. I did not even talk to a live person, I just followed the phone
instructions and activation was allowed, although it had been denied when I
attempted via the wizard. Inconsistent but true.
