Dealling with links to file locations from Outlook users

I have a equal number of mac and pc users. The windows users often insert a "short cut" to a file location on our network. \\ny_FileServer\share\teams\Budgeting%20Team%20Folder\Management%20Reports\2009.xls is a great example.

In outlook, clicking "link" or short cut will you to the the file in Explorer. This does not work at all in entourage. Does anyone know how to get this to work? Or if I need to train my Outlook users in a different method of linking to / making a short cut to the file on the file server?

This is crippling many of my users work flows and ability to share assets in a quick click freindly manner.

The link is invalid for a Mac. You'd need something like:
"smb://ny_FileServer/share/teams/Budgeting\ Team\ Folder/Management\
Reports/2009.xls"

Well you'd need to have the link written both ways for that to work.

What you're seeing is simply the difference between Mac and Windows. The
links are Windows links. They won't work on Mac or UNIX because they are
a behavior or Windows links only.

Have a look at tool called WinShortcutter for your Macs
<http://www.lobotomo.com/products/WinShortcutter/index.html>.
Winshortcutter allows Macs to follow Windows links.

Hope this helps!
