dec point ends up giving date

help!!

a user has an acer laptop. Wen he inputs 12.07 or similar in an unformatted
cell, the cell converts the input into date format rather than retain the
12.07 (seems to use the point as a /). I cannot find anything in the setup
that would cause this and it doesn't happen on any other install

Hi jd!

It looks like a Regional Setting.

Start > Control Panel > Regional Settings
Date Tab
Look at the date separator.
It's probably a .

But look at all of the other separators for decimal point and
thousands separtion. Make sure you press Apply.

Also you may need to close down and reboot even if it doesn't tell
you.
