decimal point is in wrong place

I'm using Excel 2000 and multiplying and dollar/cents
amount by a number with two decimal points ($44580.12 *
5.19 or by .00519) in both cases the decimal point is one
place to far to the left.

How can I move the point one space to the right? All the
intergers are correct just the point is wrong.

and what you actually got and how it is formatted, it might help.
As opposed to describing what you think you see.

A1: =44580.12 * 5.19 yields 231370.8228
which will appear as $231,370.82 when formatted $ and cents.
what exactly did you use and what exactly did you see.

Bankers don't unerstand that the decimal needs to be moved
two places to the left. They think I've got so much money
so why should I need money from them??

This is mathematically correct.

If you want to force the answer you desire, you could divide by 100.
6062937.46 * 5.19 /100 = 314666.45
I think you would still have to justify that to the bankers.

Is the 5.19 a percentage? If it is, the correct multiplicand would be .0519
and would yield the answer you want.

Enter 100 in an empty cell.

Copy it.

Select your range and Paste Special>Divide>OK>Esc.
