Decimal Tab Settings

Still have a 1997 Word version which still gets used. When setting decimal
tabs if I type 1222.55 the decimals line up, but if I type 1,222.55 the
decimal tab sits at the comma, not the decimal point. Is this an unsolveable
problem in Word 97 or can the setting be changed somehow to line up at the
decimal even when commas are used to separate thousands?

Hello Anne,

You've landed in a discussion group for users of Mac versions of Word (not
your fault: it's a charming foible of MS's "discussions" web interface,
which I see you used). Mac versions differ variously from PC versions.
Although several people here use both PCs and Macs and may give you an
answer soon, it's likely that more people in a PC group have experienced
your specific problem. Here's where all the groups are listed:

Hi Anne:

Sorry, I seem to remember that that is a design limitation.

In your Windows International settings, make sure that the decimal point is
set as a period and the thousands separator is set as a comma.

I assume that they are, which is correct.

In which case I think you will find that Word 97 can't tell the difference.
Its decimal tab is aligning at "any" non-numeric printable character.

Cheers

Sorry for posting in the wrong place - am very new to this and obviously
still have to find the right way to navigate around.

Many thanks for your responses. Changing the Regional Settings has fixed
the problem.

Oh, it's certainly not your fault, Anne -- it's a serious design error on
the part of the perpetrators of the discussions.microsoft.com website.

Hmm, maybe I'll have to use less polite wording than "charming foible" in my
standard response...
