Decimal Tabs

L

Lou Secki

I ran into a strange problem today when I went to update a file created with
publisher 2003. This is a price sheet and I have been using tabs to align
decimal points in prices. When I open the file in the 2007 version it wants
to align the prices with the coma separating the thousands from the rest of
the price. Is there a setting I need to change to only let the decimal tab
align with the decimal point? The help file only states that decimal tab only
works with decimal points.

Any help would be apreciated

It happens here too. It has to be a bug. I can re-open the 2003 file over and
over and the comma never moves. If I delete the comma in the 2007 file the tab
will line up.

A workaround would be to align the tab on the right.

I have a decimal tab in a price list. In 2003 things line up perfectly. In
2007 the value ".99" aligns itself as if for a right tab. If I change the
value to "0.99" it immediately snaps to the right position. I tried other
characters in front of the decimal point, but only a numeric digit worked.
All other values include both dollars and cents and so line up as expected.

I tried to work around this by putting a right tab on the right margin. No
matter how I tried to insert the tab (visually or via the dialog box), it
would not insert. The closest I got was about .1" to the left of the right
margin.

Tabs are definitely buggy in 2007.

In the left corner where the vertical and horizontal rulers meet there is the
tab setting. Put your cursor on the tab, press shift and click until you see the
right tab. Click on the ruler where you want the tab. Can you get closer to the
right margin? With an one inch margin all around I can put the right tab at
about 6.28. When I tab the cursor will go to the next line but it will input the
text correctly.

I don't know about the decimal. I will do some experimenting. Right now it
doesn't seem to be working correctly.

I am also having the same problem in Publisher 2007. The comma gets
priority in the alignment of the decimal tabs - it's extremely
frustrating. Are you saying that I should just forget the decimal
tabs and go with right alignment tabbing?

Glad to see other people are experiencing the same issue... it must be
a bug. Wonder if Microsoft knows... or cares...

I sent a bug report, hopefully it will be fixed in a future service pack.

Wow, It has taken this long to have this problem looked into? Well the
best news is that it will be fixed.

Thanks

Just wondering if this issue has been resolved yet. I, too, am very
frustrated that the comma takes priority over the decimal when using the
decimal tab. Please let me know. Thanks

Have they fixed this problem yet? I just started using the 2007 version and
this is very frustrating!
