Default Beep plays when opening/closing Office XP

As the title says, the default system beep plays when opening/closing any
Office XP application.

This is a recent development.

There is no error in the event logs.

I have uninstalled Office Sounds.

I have no new programs or MS applications.

Searching here or google produces nothing relevant (other than the
suggestion to remove the sound event).

I see no other way to troubleshoot this event.

No malware of any kind (can't recall the last year that I did either).

Defragged weekly (just in case someone would suggest this.. which would be
silly anyways).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

argh... sorry about that. XP Pro is the OS.
argh again... no sound event under open/close for Office.

To me, this can't be an error of some kind else I would get an error (of
some type) sound event.

Do other sounds play correctly on your computer? What does the Event Viewer show when this happens?

Does the sound occur if you start the application in Safe Mode? Hold the
Ctrl key down while starting the app and continue holding until you're
prompted to start in Safe Mode. If it doesn't occur then pick a specific
application to troubleshoot, such as Word or Excel, and we'll go from there.

Thanks for sticking with this.

No, it doesn't occur in safe-mode.

Now, the simplest solution would be to simply reinstall office, right? Just
seems like overkill for an issue that clearly, is just annoying, rather than
an error of some kind. I'd originally thought it was a file that just got
corrupted. These things happen from time to time. Of course, I can't simply
uninstall Office SP3. I tried simply reinstalling that overtop, but it won't
accept it (as it's already installed).

So, lets pick Word then. :D
