Default blank Word document begins middle of the page

The default document which comes up on Word now begins with the cursor at the
middle line on the page. Then when I type and the text goes to the next
line, the next line goes an entire half page length. It's like the line
spacing is set to a half page, but I see no such selection in the document
set-up. Consequently, I can only fit two lines to a page when I write a
document. This same issue is affecting mesages that I write in Outlook.

Is this some virus that others have run into that can be fixed?

Check the format of the Normal style to see if you have some huge amount of
Space Before/After. Also (but less likely) make sure that the vertical
alignment is set to Top (Layout tab of Page Setup) and that the
header/footer margins are normal.
