Default column settings?

Carrie

Since I've gotten this computer - and Word 2002 with it -
every time I open a new document, I can only type part way
across the page before it goes down to the next line.

The only thing I can find on this problem - and what
solves it - is to go into the Format/Columns, change it to
2 columns and check the 'equal column width' button, then
change it back to 1 column and it will work.

Why is the equal column width even an issue when I only
have 1 column?! Is there some way to fix the default on
this so I don't have to go through it every time I want to
start a new document?

It's driving me nuts! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Carrie

Does the default style have a right indent? Or perhaps there is some funny
setting in the Columns dialog? You can change settings directly in
Normal.dot or generate a new one. See

I'll double-check, but the page layout settings in that
dialog have always been normal. .5" margins all around -
no special indents. The only thing seems to be the mess up
with this 'column' thing.

Thanks for the link - I'll try that when I have a chance
and see if I can find anything in the template.
