DEFAULT COLUMNS ON ENTOURAGE 2004 or 2008

This drives me nuts! I want to see emails with various column
headings, most of which are the opposite of the default Entourage
ones. So regularly I have to reselect manually my chosen columns e.g.
Status, Priority, Attache, Sent, From, Subject, To, Size. As I have 80
or 100 folders & sub-folders with complex rules, this can take ages.
When Entourage tells you to use Database Utility to verify or repair
the Database not only have Rules defaulted to 'move to folder XX'
disappeared but the Columns reverted to MS default.

One solution I found for the Default Columns (Entourage 2008) is to
create a Master folder "All In" for example, set the Columns for that
and then put folders into the Master folder. They should take on the
Default settings of your Master Folder (although doesn't always work).
You may have to restart Entourage somewhere in there.

Wish MS allowed me to save as Default my Columns preferences. GRRR!

As you have found any subfolders you make will have the same column set-up
as its parent. For example, set up your Inbox how you want it, then when you
create new folders, it will inherit the settings.

Folders can be dragged. Create your folder in your Master folder and move it
to it's desired location.

I'm assuming you are using Preview Pane below. Have you ever tried the 3
pane view and use Arrange by: custom arrangements? This would give you more
flexibility to view emails by selecting different arrangements. Sometimes
it's hard to give up your way of doing things and learn how to accomplish
this with the new features.

You mentioned both 04 and 08. Rebuild in 08 should be better with saving
more customizations.

Since you have so many folders and subfolder, you might want to consider
using Custom Views or Saved Searches (different names for same function
depending on version.)

Example, have the mail go to a general folder, but then use a Saved Search
(custom view) to further organize your messages.

Say you have customer A. Set this contact to Category Work. Set a rule to
move all mail to this category to folder Work. Create a custom view to show
email from just this person, for email for this customer and project xxx,
etc.
